Budget plans: one billion for housing?

Chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to announce a £1bn billion plan to breath life into the housing market in tomorrow’s Budget.
According to media reports this morning, the money will be spent on building thousands of council houses and extending the stamp duty holiday on properties over £175,000 until the end of the year, a fund for the state to take a stake in housing projects where work has stalled and financial help where houses have been built but cannot be sold because of falling prices.
