Baxi sponsors Sowerby and Streetbikes

Baxi is sponsoring Amanda Sowerby and her Streetbikes team as they cycle 260 miles from Dortmund to Huddersfield Town in May 2017. The cyclists will be raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Sowerby explained about Streetbikes: “Streetbikes helps with people’s self-development and helps them to take responsibility for their physical and mental health whilst enjoying social interaction. Above all, it is an enjoyable experience and I feel we make a difference. For example, we recycle bikes for underprivileged, families so that they wake to a substantial Christmas present. We also help disabled people to cycle on adapted bikes and set up community events with access to everyone. These are some of the reasons I am involved.

“I will be part of a team supporting Karen Brooke, who is a disabled cyclist and trains with Streetbikes regularly. Karen’s life was saved by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after a devastating accident two years ago when she slipped on ice whilst she was leading her horse which, startled at her fall, kicked out and hit Karen on the side of her head. The Air Ambulance fly seven days a week, 365 days a year. They currently carry out over 1,250 missions a year which is an average of three incidents every single day, and require £12,000 a day. Hence the Keep it Up campaign; any one of us at any time could require this life saving intervention.”

“I have been fortunate in my chosen sport and now have a chance to give back, hence the Yorkshire Air Ambulance bike ride. I’m so fortunate that Baxi is likeminded in the Community and has donated. Thank you Baxi for getting me half way there!”

Amanda Sowerby is Baxi area sales manager Nick Smith’s sister. She is a former England International Hockey player and now works as a sports lecturer at Barnsley College. She has been working for Streetbikes for the last nine months after volunteering with them for a year.

Sowerby has been training hard for the event and confessed she has wondered why there isn’t a Tour de Lancashire.
