Tarmac celebrates 10 years of cement lab safety

Cement producer Tarmac has achieved 10 years of perfect safety records at the Cement National Laboratory.
In the decade since ‘Natlab’ was developed as the successor to the Greenhithe Technical Centre, there have been no total recordable cases (Lost Time Incidents, Modified Work Duties, Medical Treatment Cases) reported.

Cement national laboratory manager Kym Dawson says: “Our team are always looking for new and safer ways of doing tasks. Because of the nature of our work and the equipment that we use, there is no room for error and we continue to maintain constant vigilance to ensure that any potential safety risks are neutralised.

“I’m obviously thrilled that we have now had ten years of success in protecting our colleagues but now we look ahead to the next decade of safe science.”

Dr Bill Price, national commercial technical manager of Tarmac says: “At Tarmac we have always prioritised the wellbeing of our staff above all else and we have made some fantastic breakthroughs which have really revolutionised safety in the workplace.

“For instance, our Natlab team developed a microwave digestion system which can dissolve cement without the use of Hydrofluoric Acid – a highly corrosive compound that can cause lasting damage if it comes into contact with human skin.
