Independent trade-only plumbers merchant Williams & Co has opened a new branch today (October 25).
The new branch on the OakWood Trading Park in Crawley, West Sussex is the company’s 16th. It follows the opening of the Basingstoke branch on December 14 last year.
Managing director Mick Williams says that the right premises ‘came available at the right time’. The branch is off the Gatwick Road Industrial area, on the same park as Plumb Center and Parts Center, Toolstation and Speedy Hire.
“We always make sure that we site our branches in areas that we know plumbers come to. Crawley is ideal for us as location because all the major plumbers merchant names are servicing the area. We know that if there’s room for all of them, then there’s room for us as an independent.”
Some customers in the area had already been dealing with the Worthing branch, although for the most part, the new branch will bring in new customers. Williams says that when news got out that the company was opening, they had some existing customers anxious to purchase before the official opening day.
“Our very first customer was asked to perform the opening ceremony,” Williams says. “He was thrilled to be asked, so it was a nice way of thanking him for his custom and his support.”
Williams was the merchant who successfully campaigned for the Boiler Scrappage Scheme, winning a Corgi Award for services to the industry for his efforts.
