VAT to rise to 20 percent

The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has just announced that VAT rate will rise to 20% from January 4 next year.
It will, he said, bring in £13bn of extra revenue. However, the current exceptions of new housing, childrens clothers and food will remain for the life of the parliament.
