The UK Green Building Council has responded to a speech Prime Minister David Cameron is to give today (January 27)promising to scrap environmental guidance.
In the speech, the Prime Minister will announce plans to slash 80,000 pages of environmental guidance by March 2015, which he claims will save businesses around £100 million a year.
Paul King, Chief Executive of the UK Green Building Council, said: “The Prime Minister’s boasts of ‘slashing 80,000 pages’ of environmental guidance is utterly reprehensible.
“It is the same poisonous political rhetoric from Number 10, devaluing environmental regulation in a slash and burn manner. These words are not only damaging and irresponsible, but misrepresent the wishes of so many modern businesses, both large and small.”
The Prime Minister’s speech, to the Federation of Small Businesses will say that the measures the Coaliation Government has brought in will “make it vastly easier and cheaper for businesses to meet environmental obligations”, something the UKGBC disputes.
