The transport team at builders merchant Travis Perkins has been awarded Team of the Year at the Motor Transport Awards in London for inspiring a culture of change among branch managers.
The awards, organised by Motor Transport magazine, are the road transport industry event of the year, recognising innovation, outstanding service, efficiency and quality.
The judges said Travis Perkins brought together a team from across its business to develop a new system to streamline deliveries, resulting in a 50% reduction in straying out of set delivery areas, saving thousands of pounds in fuel costs and increasing year-on-year delivered sales by £1.5m.
The judges added: “It was a very brave initiative for a team to undertake, but they succeeded by presenting a simple plan that was easy to understand. The team went above and beyond what they had originally set out to achieve by passing on the concept to teams in other regions.”
The Team of the Year Award was sponsored by BNP Paribas Rental Solutions. Welsh actor and comedian Rob Brydon presented the award in front of more than 1,600 guests at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane.
