Travis Perkins sees half-year profits soar

A 19.4% rise in pre-tax profits at builders and plumbers merchant chain Travis Perkins group Travis Perkins has been put down to improving market conditions and inreasinf customer confidence.
The group, which owns Wickes, City Plumbing, Keyline, Benchmarx, PTS, Travis Perkins, Tile Giant and BSS, made a profit of £162.5m before tax in the six months to June 30 on sales that were up 11.5% at £2.73bn.

Chief executive John Carter said: “Trading is consistent with our expectation and with lead indicators in our different markets encouraging, the group is expected to show continued solid growth for the remainder of the year.”

Revenue in the General Merchanting division rose 15.3% to £908m, the Contracts division was 12.4% ahead at £513m, the Consumer division grew 8.8% to £638m and the Plumbing and Heating division saw sales rise 8.4% to £672m.
