Rise in demand for fire control products following Grenfell tragedy

IronmongeryDirect has observed a sharp rise in product sales across their fire control range since the Grenfell Tower fire on 14th June.

The supplier has seen a noticeable rise in demand for products such as intumescent door seals and intumescent glazing accessories, as well as smoke alarms, door closers, hold open devices and other fire related products. For the six weeks following the disaster, intumescent product orders have increased on average by 35.6%.

Managing Director at IronmongeryDirect, Wayne Lysaght-Mason, commented: “Clearly the appalling tragedy at Grenfell has resulted in more fire safety checks being carried out and a need to improve the integrity of fire control systems within buildings.

“It’s a stark reminder of the critical importance of having properly installed and maintained fire doors and other systems for all buildings, whether residential or commercial.”
