Students at Birmingham City University have taken part in a special competition run by balustrade specialist Richard Burbidge.

14 MA Product Design course students designed and built prototypes of a new stair balustrade system during an intensive one-week project.
Habib Djalilov’s ingenious bubble-effect design was the winner, with, in second place, Xunbo Tang’s mesh design, inspired by the Beijing Olympics Bird’s Nest stadium. Diana Proost was third with her 1960s-style floating balustrade. A special award was also presented to Jui Hsuan Chang who incorporated planters into her balustrade design.
Each winner received a voucher prize and overall winner Habib has also been offered a work placement at Richard Burbidge Ltd.
