Osborne confirms commitment to renewables

The Chancellor of the Exchequer today announced £860m funding for the Renewable Heat Incentive, despite fears that the Comprehensive Spending Review would see the scheme cut.
The scheme will be introduced from 2011, with the aim of driving a 10-fold increase in the take-up of renewables.

Osborne also confirmed that the government would foot the bill for the scheme rather than implementing the previous administrations ideas for an “overly complex” renewable heat levy.
