The Builders Merchants Federation is saddened to hear of the death of former BMF President Ian Robey OBE, after a long illness.
He was President of the BMF from 1979-1981, during which time he always gave the trade press a good headline, such as the one when times were hard: ‘Robey tells merchants get off your bottoms!
He joined the Enfield merchants Cakebread Robey in 1950, becoming a director four years later and managing director in 1963. He was chairman from 1965 until his retirement in 1990.
Robey was also a fellow of the Institute of Builders Merchants as well as a founder member and chairman of both the National Home Improvement Council and NRS, the Neighbourhood Revitalisation Scheme, something he was especially proud of.
A Thanksgiving Service will be held on Saturday, 25th January at Trinity Church, Knebworth at 2pm.
