MKM opens trade counter for apprentices

Independent builders’ merchant MKM Building Supplies has launched a trade account aimed at apprentices.
The account, which allows apprentice builders, plumbers and plasterers to buy tools and material at trade prices, has been launched as part of an initiative to help young people in Northumberland get started in the building industry.

Also included as part of the initiative is a new, low-cost starter kit containing all the essential tools apprentices will need to gain their qualifications, as well as money-off vouchers for safety gear.

To access the support, all young people need to do is enrol on a relevant course at a local college and go to the MKM branches on Shilbottle Lane, Alnwick, or in Berwick, Morpeth and Hexham.

Gordon Webster, branch director in Alnwick, said the initiative was aimed at helping young people avoid the high cost of tooling-up to get their qualifications, which can sometimes prohibit people from taking them.

“Apprentices will be able to purchase tools and materials online and in branch at trade prices, which they have not been able to do before.

“It is part of our initiative to encourage people into the building profession and gain the proper qualifications.”
