Ideal Standard close factory

Ideal Standard have closed their Cliff Vale manufacturing facility, with the loss of 137 jobs.
The US-owned company has pointed to falling demand for the 95-year-old factory’s traditionally made sanitaryware.

Speaking on Friday, an Ideal Standard spokesperson said of the closure: “This difficult decision was necessary to address the rise in consumer demand for fine, fireclay products that other sites will be better placed to produce.

“To date 50 people have left the site with 20 being deployed in other areas of the business. The majority of remaining employees leave today.”
