Howdens and Band of Builders donate kitchen to couple in need

Howdens teams up with Band of Builders to donate kitchen

Howdens, the trade kitchen supplier, has teamed up with national construction charity Band of Builders (BoB) to donate a new Ilfracombe kitchen, in Ash Green and Terracotta, to a couple in Bishop’s Stortford.

Builder Mike Shrimpton and wife Christine had been living in a caravan near their property as they completed renovations to their home to make the house safer and more accommodating following Christine’s dementia diagnosis. Work halted when Mike was diagnosed with stage four prostrate cancer and a serious heart condition.

Howdens teamed up with BoB, a registered charity that completes practical projects to help members of the UK construction industry and their families who are battling illness or injury. The kitchen was fitted by Tom Easter, Howdens Kitchen Fitter of the Year.

Director of design at Howdens, Adrian Heaton, said; “Mike has worked all of his life completing projects for others, so we had no hesitation about stepping up and supplying a new kitchen for their family. It has been a humbling experience to see all of the Band of Builders volunteers and the wider community come together for this project.”
