House building at its highest for six years

The number of new homes being built in England last year was the highest for six years, government figures have revealed.
The latest statistics produced by the Dpartment for Communities and Local Government show starts on new houses in 2013 totalled 122,590, up by 23% on the previous year, and the highest since 2007.

Despite the poor weather conditions this winter, work on new homes in the last three months of 2013 was also up by 23% compared to the same period in 2012.

However, annual completions of new homes totalled 109,370 in the 12 months to December 2013, 5% lower compared to the previous 12 months.
