Trafalgar Community Infant School in Horsham has received £500 funding after winning a local community fund campaign run by the Kingsfold based builders’ merchant NYEs Building Supplies.
Proud to be Local, which was set up by NYEs in 2018, offers community groups, charities and causes the chance to receive £500 funding towards a project of their choice. The initiative is run four times during the year and anyone is able to put forward a nomination. Nominations are shortlisted to three finalists that go head to head in a public vote to determine the winner. Votes can be cast by email, on Facebook and at the NYEs depot.
Karen McGinnis, whose son attends the school, is a member of the fundraising group The Friends of Trafalgar School. Karen made the nomination to NYEs in January as part of the group’s aim to raise £40,000 towards playground equipment.
Alys Ransom, who is Chair of The Friends of Trafalgar School, said “This is a marvellous campaign and we cannot thank NYEs enough. Schools are facing an extremely challenging time so this money is very gratefully received and will go a long way to helping us obtain our target of £40,000. The children, parents, staff, governors and the FTS members at Trafalgar Community Infant School will be delighted.”
Rex Nye, who is Managing Director at NYEs, said “As a local business we’re acutely aware of the issues schools in our community are facing in terms of funding, and the consequences to facilities and equipment, which is why campaigns like Proud to be Local are so important.
“Huge congratulations to Trafalgar Community Infant School and our thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for all three finalists. As ever, we’re touched by the dedication of local people to supporting vital community work and facilities.”
