Hanson to close three more brick factories

Brick factories in Surrey, Berkshire and Kent are closing as building materials supplier Hanson struggles with the lack of house-building.
The Clockhouse Brickworks, in Capel, Surrey, will begin a phased closure shut-down from March 27.

Hanson is also closing its sites in Dover and Newbury.

Hanson spokesman David Weeks said the company has had to review all their production sites and had hoped to keep the works all going. “We were hoping to keep the works running, but we have come to the stage where we simply can’t keep making bricks when people aren’t building houses.”
