Drunk teenager tries to steal Travis Perkins truck

A 19-year-old man has been fined after he tried to steal a dumper truck belonging to builders merchant Travis Perkins.
The truck had been been hired by the Five Valleys Foyer project in Stroud, Gloucestershire, to make a community garden for residents over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Burgess admitted trying to start the truck, a Skip Loader 1001, with a pair of scissors on Thursday, August 27 with intent to steal.

The truck had been left near the project’s premises overnight and when staff returned it had been damaged. A witness reportedly took a photo of Burgess sitting on the truck and reaching down to the ignition.

The Stroud News and Journal reports that Burgess admitted using a pair of scissors to try and start the vehicle and told the court that he was so drunk at the time he couldn’t really remember what happened.

He was fined £150 and ordered to pay £179.41 compensation to Travis Perkins, plus £70 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
