Drakes eyes further expansion

Plumbers merchant Drakes Plumbing Supplies officially launched its new Whitstable branch on Tuesday evening (16th September), and are planning on opening several others in the next few years.

Drakes eyes further expansion

Existing trade customers, suppliers and staff attended the launch evening with the Sheriff of Canterbury, Tony Austin, officially opening the new depot.

Drakes took over the branch when it acquired A&C Plumbing Supplies in August.

The Tunbridge Wells-based merchant now has eight branches across its Kent and Sussex network, and managing director Andy Clark told BMJ he is hopeful of doubling the size of the company within the next decade.

“We’re looking to make the company even larger,” said Clark. “For instance we might even look at going along the coast, perhaps to Brighton or beyond, and then perhaps into Surrey.

“But we’re hoping in the next five to seven years to have increased the company to twice its size from the original seven branches up to 15 or maybe more.

“David (Aisher, chairman and founder of Drakes) and I are looking at areas and identifying businesses, and we may well pull the trigger in spring of next year.”
