Cemex cements colourful collaboration at Fish Island

Global building materials solutions supplier Cemex has supplied a high-quality mortar solution which has been integral to the dramatic transformation of Fish Island Village – a community-centric collaboration between Peabody, The Hill Group and architects Haworth Tompkins, Pitman Tozer and Lyndon Goode, in Hackney Wick, London.

Incorporating Neptune Wharf, a vibrant collection of homes, commercial units and workspaces over a 2.23-hectare site, the multi-faceted mid-rise development encompasses 17 mixed-use buildings arranged in three contemporary styled clusters. Bringing together 588 mixed-tenure homes, (including 25% affordable housing) and 56 commercial units, Fish Island Village fosters a dynamic hub in Hackney Wick where much-needed homes co-exist alongside creative workspaces for entrepreneurial fashion businesses.

Mike May, European Sales Manager, Dry & Special Mortar, Cemex, comments: “The Neptune Wharf design demanded an intentional contrast between the brick and mortar. The design team were challenged to find a quality-coloured mortar solution to stand up to the job of creating a striking visual effect – and secondly to ensure a consistent colour supply across an entire scheme.”

Cemex coloured mortars are available in a wide range of shades and colours to enhance the appearance of a project, and the company offers a free colour match service to ensure a precision match.
