Henry  Carver, managing director of Wolverhampton independent builders merchant Carvers Building Supplies has picked up the prestigious Business Person of the Year Award at the Express and Star Business Awards.

Carver received his award – the evening’s only individual award – from event compere Alan Dedicoat – TV’s famous ‘Voice of the Balls’, in front of an audience of around 400 at Dunstall racecourse in Wolverhampton.

The judges said: “Carvers was destroyed by fire five years ago and Henry Carver’s exemplary leadership has produced a business that is now bigger and better than ever in a tough marketplace.”

However, Carver told the audience: “I am only here because the people I employ are better than me.

“I am delighted to receive this award, which is a great credit to our employees, who were so very supportive of management and Directors in our difficult times, post fire.  We are a fantastic team here at Carvers and everyone plays their part in making the Company the success that it is”.

Carvers themselves narrowly missed out on the Community Champion award, for their work over the years with the Wolverhampton Marathon, with the award going to Aldridge-based roofing and building refurbishment business SPV.
