The Government has reported that August 2024 is the fourth-highest month for applications via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) since the launch of the heat pump incentive in 2022.
It found that 2,890 submissions were received during August 2024 to apply for a grant of £7,500 towards installing a heat pump.

Ian Rippin, chief executive of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme accreditation body, said the latest data on the BUS showed rising demand for heat pumps.
He said: “So far, over 40,000 heat pumps have been installed in 2024, inching closer to last year’s record of 40,426 installations.”
“While we’re on track for another record-breaking year, we need further industry progress to meet the government’s target of 600,000 heat pump installations annually by 2028.”
Mr Rippin emphasised the importance of the BUS in driving heat pump adoption, stating that the £7,500 grant remains a crucial incentive for homeowners and small business owners considering a shift to low carbon heating.
The latest figure was more than double the number of applications received over the same period in 2023. However, Interest in the incentive for August was slightly down on the demand seen during the previous month, when 3,047 applications were received.
The figures outlined a number of other trends with regards to the incentive that aims to encourage more homes across England to install heat pumps.
For July and August 2024, air source heat pumps (ASHPs) accounted for 98% of all applications made through the BUS. Additionally, 44,271 vouchers have been issued to date via the incentive towards covering the cost of heat pumps.
